The original investigation into Gwen's death was a farcical tragedy. Police assumed suicide and considered no other possibilities. Gwen's body was cremated within days and the case was closed.

When the Cold Case team was ordered to reopen the case in 2020, they too relied on assumptions and failed to chase down leads that cast new light onto what happened to Gwen.
